Kitties That Need To Knead

To be kneaded by a cat is to be paid one of the highest compliments in the feline world.

If you own a cat, you may be familiar with this feline characteristic: one paw at a time kneading against your body.

Kneading is an expression of kitty love. Kittens start this behavior right after birth, to find their mother’s nipple and help stimulate milk flow. When drinking from its mom, a young kitten may knead and purr to let Mama know it feels safe and secure.

When our kittens and cats knead and purr in response to our affectionate care, they convey a similar message to us. It's a signal that they are safe, happy and content.

It is normal behavior for some cats to drool while kneading. Also, your cat may not realize that while she is displaying affection to you her kitty love can hurt. Be sure to keep her nails trimmed to avoid painful scratches from her claws.

If it is too uncomfortable, you can redirect your cat to a towel instead of your body. To rebuff her when she shows affection will only disappoint and confuse her. To be kneaded by a cat is to be paid one of the highest compliments in the feline world.
