PHOTO GALLERY: Local Residents Chop Off 1,400 Inches Of Own Hair For Cancer Patients

"We are so proud of our school and community as a whole."

Railroad Canyon Elementary School’s Relay for Life team/Passion 4 a Cure hosted a community "haircut" April 24 for cancer patients, and by all accounts it was a success.

The event held at Railroad Canyon Elementary School invited residents to get a haircut and donate their sheared locks to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a program that distributes wigs to those with cancer.

"We ended up cutting 67 people’s hair that day, with the help of stylists from Anáza, Salon Silque, Sky Salon, and Vizion Salon," explained event organizer Jennifer Hamm. "We [also] had ponytails dropped off by students and community members. In total, we had 47 dropped off! Together, ... we collected ... over 1,400 inches of high-quality hair to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. We are so proud of our school and community as a whole." Hamm is a Railroad Canyon Elementary School teacher and Relay for Life team member. The idea for the community haircut came to her after one of her students expressed interest in donating her own hair to cancer patients. Click here to read more about that story.
