Article by Daniel Lane:

Monday marked the fifth anniversary for the City of Wildomar. The event at Wildomar Elementary School got underway about 6 p.m.

The Wildomar Historical Society conducted the annual “Ringing of the Bell” to recognize the incorporation of the city on July 1st, 2008.

During the event, nearly 60 people attended the annual bell ringing. Juice It Up also provided free smoothies and popcorn.

All attendees had the opportunity to ring the historic bell.

Council Member Bridgette Moore said that she was glad to see community members come together for the event.

“Today we are going to celebrate our fifth birthday,” Moore said. “We rang it on our first day on July 1st, 2008 and we’ve rang it every year. This is our tradition.”

The bell - which is from 1886 - was from Wildomar’s first school house. The ringing of the bell took place at about 6:15 p.m.

“Happy birthday to the City of Wildomar,” Moore added.

April Watkins, 40, of Wildomar was joined by her family for the event.

“I remember five years ago when we were trying to become a city,” Watkins said. “I just wanted to come celebrate that hard work.”

The bell was last rang for school in June 1958.

The school bell also has a time capsule that was locked away in 2006 and will be opened in 2056.
