Wrongway Driver Killed In Lake Elsinore Crash

A Corona man was killed early Monday morning when he drove on the wrong side of the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore, authorities are reporting.

Jesse Campbell, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. A. Smith.

Campbell was driving southbound on the northbound side of the freeway when he struck a freeway overpass, according to reports from Smith and Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

His sedan went off the freeway and landed in the eastbound lanes of Railroad Canyon Road, Hagemann reported. Smith said the unrestrained driver was ejected and pronounced dead at 12:18 a.m.

It is not immediately clear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. No other injuries were reported in the solo-vehicle incident.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
