California's Jobless Picture Sees Slight Improvement

In June, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 26 states and the District of Columbia, with the largest over-the-month increase in employment occurring in Texas and California.

Today the Bureau of Labor Statistics released regional and state unemployment numbers for June, and California saw some meager improvement.

In June, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 26 states and the District of Columbia, with the largest over-the-month increase in employment occurring in Texas and California.

Texas added 32,000 jobs, followed by California with an added 28,800.

But overall, the western portion of the country saw the highest regional unemployment rate in June at 10.4 percent, with California at 11.8 percent.

The state ranked high in terms of statistically significant employment changes over the same time last year, however. Since June 2010, California has added 157,000 jobs to the payroll.

The June 2011 unemployment numbers for Riverside County and its cities will be released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Aug. 3.

In May 2011, Lake Elsinore saw unemployment at 12.9 percent, Wildomar was at 11.7 percent, and Lakeland Village at 20.8 percent.
