Citizens of Temecula, Murrieta, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore and Menifee are coming together next Wednesday, February 20th at 4:30 pm for a Candlelight Vigil in remembrance of all the victims of gun violence. The hope is that our legislators will see the concern in our area for the violence in America. Neighbors of all political persuasions, gun owners, mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts and uncles are gathering at the Duck Pond in Temecula.
The latest information shows that many American cities have homicide rates comparable to some of the most violent countries in the world. Americans are concerned about the violence in our country. No other industrialized nation has as many deaths by gun as we do in America. “Countries with strict gun regulations have virtually eliminated gun violence”. States in the United States that have stricter gun control laws also have fewer deaths from gun-related violence.. Concerned citizens are not looking to eliminate guns, only to limit their ownership to those who will use them and care for them responsibly. To say it in other words, they want to keep guns out of the hands of those who would misuse them.
If bridges were falling down, we would want to find out the cause. If terrorists were able to attack our cities at will, we would want to find out how we could prevent it. But when we have mass killings by gun, we grieve but discussions of possible solutions are discouraged. We have an obligation to try to halt the violence.
Please bring your light: candle, lantern, flashlight and support the Temecula Candlelight Vigil. The Duck Pond is at the corner of Ynez and Rancho California Roads. We owe it to our families to make this a safer world.
