Local Democratic Club Honors Top Volunteers

The Democratic Club of Southwest Riverside County (DCSRC) held its annual Awards Banquet and Fundraiser Monday evening at the Pechanga Resort and Casino. Members and guests, enjoying a sumptuous dinner, recognized Ira Robinson, Esq. as Club Volunteer of the Year. Also given enthusiastic praise were Lifetime Achievement Award recipients Eleanor Newhard and David Lander, Esq.

Club president Lois (Suji) Hochenauer-Fox talked about the importance of volunteerism in assisting the goals of most Riverside County families. Candidates for office in 2014—Tim Sheridan for U.S. Congress in the 42nd Congressional District, James Kimber for U.S. Congress in the 50th Congressional District, and Philip Drucker for California State Senate in the 28th Senate District—each made presentations.

The recurring theme of their talks was accomplishing the goals families need to live decent lives. Among those goals are: Creating good-paying jobs in our county (fair wages are the most direct path to a prospering economy.); Building a sensible path to citizenship (hard-working immigrants are our country’s foundation.); Preserving Social Security and Medicare ( the savings our seniors paid from their paychecks over a lifetime); Increased compensation for our military and their families (a huge percentage of our veterans live with PTSD.); Ensuring that all our youth are provided a first-class education and after-school enrichment programs.

The point was made more than once that Republican opponents/incumbents in the three races have consistently voted against these values that our families in Riverside County and across the country hold dear.

Regular monthly meetings of the DCSRC are held the first Monday of every month at Casa Jimenez Restaurant in Murrieta at 7 p.m. All Democrats, and others interested in restoring democracy to our country, are welcomed.
