The Diamond Stadium Evacuated Following 'Explosives' Call

The Diamond Stadium in Lake Elsinore was evacuated Thursday night following an anonymous call alleging explosives were at the facility.

According to Deputy Albert Martinez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, an anonymous caller phoned the Califormia Highway Patrol at 6:50 p.m. and stated there were "possible explosives" at the stadium, but then quickly hung up.

The CHP immediately transferred the incident to the sheriff's department and deputies were on scene moments later.

The deputies conducted a perimeter search at the stadium, found nothing, and then began their investigation inside the facility, according to Martinez. Meanwhile baseball fans who were at The Diamond to see the Storm take on the Modesto Nuts were evacuated, along with players, coaches and stadium staff.

Game time was 7:05 p.m.

According to a Patch reporter at the scene, the search by deputies concluded at approximately 9:40 p.m. with nothing found.

Along with sheriff's deputies, the CHP did respond to the area to assist with traffic control, Martinez said.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department was also on scene, according to the Patch reporter.

A Patch reader said fans evacuated from tonight's game were told to hold on to their ticket stubs, which can be exchanged for another game ticket. Click here for a statement from Storm management.
