A Busy Week in the Assembly

It’s that time of year where everything is hustle and bustle in Sacramento. This is the last week to hear all of the bills that passed out of the policy committees and will now be heard on the Assembly floor. I and all of my colleagues, both Republican and Democrat, have been on the Assembly floor for 8 hours a day listening to bills for the last week. I have been fortunate enough to have five of my bills pass off of the Assembly floor and they are now headed to the State Senate.

AB 526 – The California Military Families Financial Relief Act of 2013

AB 526, the California Military Families Financial Relief Act of 2013 is set to expand protections to any member of the National Guard or Military Reserve. AB 526 will allow reservists to defer payments, without interest, on a mortgage, credit card, car loans, property taxes and other financial obligations.

AB 681 – Spousal Support

AB 681 is an important fix to a legal loophole. It will prevent an individual from having to pay alimony to their former spouse who has been convicted of sexually abusing their child. Spouses who commit violent crimes against their children deserve justice, not monetary rewards. AB 681 will protect spouses in California from being required to financially support violent sexual felons.

AB 813 – Election Reform

AB 813, which passed by unanimous consent and was proposed by a 67th Assembly District constituent, requires County Registrars of Voters and the Secretary of State to post the certified statement of election results online in a downloadable format for public inspection.

AB 939 – Automatic External Defibrillators

AB 939 is designed to enhance the safety of children in public schools and passed overwhelmingly off the Assembly floor. While many schools do not currently have AEDs, AB 939 will make AEDs easier for our school districts to acquire and provides protection for school district employees.

AB 983 – Storage Facility Act

AB 983, changes the California Self Service Storage Facility Act to make it more consistent with other California statutory lien enforcement procedures.
