Coroner IDs Man Found in Lake Elsinore Field

The Riverside County Coroner's Office says a 52-year-old Lake Elsinore man shot himself in an open last week.

A man who was found shot to death last week in Lake Elsinore, apparently by his own hands, has been identified as a local resident.

The Riverside County Coroner's Office says 52-year-old David Merritt was found was found Friday around 8:42 a.m. in an open field adjacent to the 300 block of N. Lowell Street.

The office believes that Merritt shot himself with a shotgun, according to reports.

It's not known how long he lay there before he was found.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death.
