Drinking Toilet Water
Canyon Hills community in Lake Elsinore remained under an order Monday, July 1, to boil tap water before using it to drink or cook as a result of a potentially contaminated water line. On or about June 28, 75 households EVMWD discovered a recycled water irrigation pipe allowed recycled sewerage water i.e. “Sh17 water” had entered the drinking water “potable water” system. The cross connections have been removed and testing the water mains in that area and attempting to disinfect pipes is ongoing.
Illness does not happen overnight, it takes days or weeks to develop. Some of the possible illnesses are: hepatitis, acute diarrhea, cryptosporidium and other viral-biological diseases. “cryptosporidiumhttp://www.google.com/search?q=cryptosporidium&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei” as well as severe complications to pregnant woman and the very young in my opinion.
Once the disinfection is completed and sampling proves the water is safe to drink, residents will be notified, a district spokesman said in a release. One resident is quoted as saying “We have been drinking recycled water for at least 4 weeks. We have 1 lady in her 1st trimester of pregnancy, elderly people and LOTS of kids in the affected area.” This is a very serious breach in the safe drinking water that should have had safeguards in place so it never happens in the 1st place.
