SPEEDING AND LOOSE DOGS

A dog died in my arms last night after being slammed by a speeding car on McVicker Canyon Park Road.  Another dog was killed Monday morning, November 4, at Grand and McVicker.  Dressed in light clothes, jumping up and down and waving my arms, I was nearly hit several times as I tried to move the injured pup out of the road.

There are two issues here that need to be addressed:  SPEEDING and loose dogs.

SPEEDING down the McVicker Canyon Park hill is constant.  This is a road next to a park with children bicycling and skateboarding.  This is a road that is constantly in use by walkers and runners and exercisers enjoying the benefits of the hill or heading to the trail.  There needs to be a light with a crosswalk and/or speedbumps to slow down neglectful drivers.

The abundance of unattended loose dogs has disturbed me since I moved to Lake Elsinore three years ago.  As I walk my dogs, or jog, I am ALWAYS-that’s every day- approached by loose dogs.  Very few of these dogs are strays.  If you love your dog keep it leashed, fenced or in the home.  Put a collar on it.  There is a culture here that seems to think it is fine to leave your dogs loose—I see near misses every day and have seen several dogs hit by cars.
