16 Evacuated After Gas Line Gets Broken In Lake Elsinore

The rupture was caused by workers, according to a spokeswoman for Southern California Gas Co.

Laborers sheared a gas line at Adam View Apartments in Lake Elsinore Saturday, and firefighters evacuated 16 people but no one was hurt, a utility spokeswoman said.

The laborers pulled a wall footing Saturday at the four-unit complex in the 30500 block of Adams Avenue and ripped out a chunk of the three-quarter inch pipe, causing natural gas to leak out, Southern California Gas Co. spokeswoman Trisha Muse said.

The accident was reported at 4:23 p.m. Saturday. A utility work crew repaired the damaged gas line by 8:15 p.m. that night, Muse said. --City News Service
