Armed Robbery Suspect Shot and Wounded in Corona

A man was shot by police as he fled from using a fake gun to hold up a McDonald's restaurant in Corona, a sergeant said Saturday.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 10:15 p.m. Friday about the armed robbery at 400 N. McKinley Ave. A man matching the suspect's description was spotted running from the eatery by arriving officers, Corona police Sgt. Kim Velasco said.

The officers chased the suspect to a Mobil gas station on North McKinley Avenue, where the suspect was shot and wounded. The robber suffered a non- life threatening injury and was taken to a hospital, Velasco said.

His name was not released.

The money stolen from the McDonald's restaurant was recovered and no officers were hurt. An investigation was on-going, the sergeant said.
