Bicyclist Hit In Lake Elsinore

Motorists are advised to be alert for pedestrians and cyclists in the community.

As the weather warms, cyclists and pedestrians take to the outdoors. An incident Friday night in Lake Elsinore serves as a reminder to watch out for them.

Lake Elsinore residents Scott Burse, 44, and Angela Odell, 32, were riding their bikes home from a dinner out at a nearby Mexican restaurant. As they headed westbound on Railroad Canyon Road at about 7:15 p.m., a motorist turning right onto the northbound 15 onramp struck Odell.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer J. Hackett, the couple had the green light and both had front and rear lights on their bikes.

“They were doing what they were supposed to be doing,” Hackett said.

Burse said his fiancé sustained leg injuries and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center, but she is expected to be ok.

"It's a bad intersection," he said.

From Railroad Canyon there are two right-hand turn lanes that enter onto the northbound freeway onramp, and the motorist that struck Odell was in the left-most lane, Hackett explained.

There were no reports that drugs or alcohol were involved. --Daniel Lane contributed to this report.
