Drunken Car Stunt Injures Canyon Lake Man; Driver Arrested

Canyon Lake resident Anthony Jaramillo, 25, and K. Ferguson-Willis, 23, of Hemet were both hurt after they climbed out of 2002 Kia driven by 19-year-old Kara Simmons of Homeland.

Two men who climbed out of a moving vehicle and got onto its roof were hospitalized today and the woman who was driving landed in jail.

Canyon Lake resident Anthony Jaramillo, 25, and K. Ferguson-Willis, 23, of Hemet were both hurt after they climbed out of 2002 Kia driven by 19-year-old Kara Simmons of Homeland.

The incident was reported just before 1 a.m. Friday on westbound Scott Road, west of El Centro Road, in Menifee.

According to a California Highway Patrol report, Simmons was traveling at about 35 to 40 mph when the two men climbed out of a rear window and onto the car’s roof.

During the stunt, Simmons had to hit the brakes when she came up on a slower vehicle, which sent the two men tumbling onto the road in front of the Kia, the CHP reported.

Both men were hit by Simmons’ car and sustained numerous bumps and abrasions, the CHP reported. The two were transported to Inland Valley Hospital with moderate injuries, according to the report.

Simmons was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The CHP did report whether the two men were intoxicated.
