DUI Checkpoint Tonight in Lake Elsinore
Sheriff's deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore police station will staff an anti-DUI operation in town tonight, it was announced.
The driver's license and sobriety checkpoint will be held at an undisclosed location in town.
"Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment," sheriff's Sgt. Peter Giannakakos said. "Officers will also check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily."
According to the sergeant, the Lake Elsinore Police Department has investigated 42 DUI crashes in the last year. He said 61 people were hurt in those incidents.
What's more, the department has made more than 187 arrests of people suspected of driving under the influence, he said.
