Fire Closes Ortega Highway Monday Afternoon

The road will be shut down until at least 2:30 p.m. east of Antonio Parkway.

UPDATED 2: P.M.: Ortega will remain closed for 30-60 minutes more.

A small brushfire closed the Ortega Highway on Monday afternoon about 2 miles east of Antonio Parkway.

The brush ignited after a small pick-up truck caught on fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car parked on the shoulder but started to roll.

The quarter-acre blaze was extinguished by 1:30 p.m., but authorities said the road would remain shut down in both directions until sometime between 2:30-3 p.m.
