Gas Leak Forces Menifee Road Closure

A natural gas line was ruptured by a construction crew working in Menifee this afternoon, prompting authorities to shut down a roadway while repairs were made.

A four-inch gas line was damaged around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Newport and Antelope roads, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Sheriff's deputies closed access to Newport, between Antelope and Via Corazon Drive, until the Gas Co. finished patching the leak.

Residents within a quarter-mile area were being advised to stay indoors, though there was no immediate threat to their safety, according to the fire department. --City News Service
