Lake Elsinore Man Tells Reporter He Did 'A Terrible Thing'

The Lake Elsinore man accused of killing a Newport Beach urologist has told a Los Angeles Times reporter he did “a terrible thing” and was upset over his prostate surgery performed more than 20 years ago.

Stanwood Elkus, 75, expressed these sentiments to the reporter during visiting hours at the Theo Lacy Facility, a jail in Orange, where the accused is being held.

Elkus has pleaded not guilty to lying in wait and shooting Dr. Ronald Gilbert, 52, on Jan. 28 in a medical building in Newport Beach.
