Man Who Barricaded Himself In Wildomar Shed Surrenders

A report of a disturbance at 33065 Sheri Lane was received by police shortly after 12:15 p.m.

UPDATE: The man who barricaded himself in a shed for nearly an hour during a standoff in Wildomar has been identified as David P. Allen, according to Cpl. Courtney Donowho of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

A Wildomar resident, Allen surrendered to authorities and was arrested around 2:15 p.m. today at 33065 Sheri Lane. However, as of 5 p.m., he had not yet been booked, according to Cpl. Donowho.

ORIGINAL REPORT: A man who barricaded himself in a Wildomar shed for nearly an hour Tuesday afternoon in an apparent attempt to elude authorities is in custody, according to Cpl. Courtney Donowho of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

A report of a disturbance at 33065 Sheri Lane was received by police shortly after 12:15 p.m. When patrol units arrived, deputies attempted to question a man who neighbors say lived in a shed on the property.

The man barricaded himself in the shed while deputies surrounded the property and evacuated a neighboring residence; a sheriff's helicopter monitored the situation from overhead.

According to neighbors, several shots were fired and a Rottweiler living on the property was struck and killed.

At 2:15 p.m., the man, whose identity has not been released, surrendered to authorities.

It is unclear if the suspect was ever armed. According to sheriff's radio broadcasts, a .38-caliber pistol is registered to the suspect, but it wasn't clear whether the handgun was in his possession. Deputies were concerned about the suspect using a tunnel to move between the shed and a Quonset hut on the property.

Once in custody, the suspect was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene, but there are no reports of injuries.

According to Cpl. Donowho, the suspect is expected to be booked, but there is no word yet on charges against him. --City News Service and Janice Carabine contributed to this report.
