Pedestrian Killed In Lake Elsinore

Gabriel Lopez, 61, of Lake Elsinore was struck by an SUV at Grand Avenue at Shoreline Drive.

A pedestrian who was hit by an SUV in Lake Elsinore Monday night has died, police are reporting.

At about 8:30 p.m., Gabriel Lopez, 61, of Lake Elsinore was struck at Grand Avenue at Shoreline Drive and died a few hours later, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Lopez had apparently attempted to cross Grand Avenue and did not see the SUV, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department news release. The SUV’s driver attempted to avoid the collision, the news release stated.

“The driver rendered medical aid to the pedestrian at the scene and offered full cooperation with investigators,” according to the news release.

Lopez was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center and was rushed to surgery. According to the news release, he died at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday while in surgery.

Grand Avenue was closed until approximately 3 a.m. as police investigated the scene.

The SUV driver, whose identity has not been released by authorities, was questioned and released.
