Details:

On Friday, July 22, 2011, investigators from the Wildomar Police Department met with the Texas Highway Patrol in Amarillo, Texas to collect evidence related to a burglary that occurred in the city of Wildomar on June 15, 2011.

Travis Dodson, 45 Years

Ellen Bryant, 37 Years

On Wednesday, June 15, 2011, investigators from the Wildomar Police Department were notified by Texas Highway Patrol that 45-year-old Travis Dodson, and passenger, 37-year-old Ellen Bryant, both transients out of Wildomar, were detained on I-40 in Oldham County, Texas for a traffic violation. During their investigation it was determined Dodson was a parolee at large and wanted by the California Department of Corrections. Dodson and Bryant were also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a large sum of US Currency. Based on information given by Bryant and Dodson it was determined the large amount of U.S. Currency had been stolen during a burglary from an elderly male who resides in the city of Wildomar. Investigators determined the burglary had been reported, but with limited suspect information. It was later determined the victim had hired Dodson to clear weeds off his property prior to the theft.

Both suspects waived extradition and investigators from the Wildomar Police Department transported both suspects from Texas to the Southwest Detention Center. Dodson and Bryant were booked on a variety of charges.   The investigation is continuing and the Wildomar Police Department is asking the public for information regarding this case to contact Investigator Callahan at (951) 245-3354.

Nicholas Edward Esparza, 19 Years

Details:

On Sunday, July 24, 2011, at 5:26 pm, officers from the Wildomar Police Department responded to the 22600 block of Sunny Brook in reference to a family disturbance. When the officers arrived, they learned two family members at the location were assaulted with a knife. One of the family members was cut by the knife which caused non-life-threatening injuries. When officers attempted to contact the 19-year-old suspect at the location, he refused to come out of the residence and barricaded himself inside. Officers were told there were two weapons inside the residence and it was unknown if the suspect was in possession or had access to these weapons.

Wildomar officers surrounded the location and attempted to make contact with the suspect over the phone and loudspeaker. Despite these efforts for over two hours, the suspect did not cooperate and remained inside refusing to follow the officers' orders. At that point the Sheriff Department's Emergency Services Team and Crisis Negotiating Team were called out to the location to make further attempts to take the suspect into custody without endangering him or the public. Communication could not be established with the suspect and chemical weapons were deployed in an attempt flush him outside. After a nearly 9-hour standoff, the Emergency Services Team was able to enter the location and take the suspect into custody safely with no injuries to the suspect, officers, or the public.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old, Nicholas Edward Esparza of Wildomar. Esparza was arrested for the assault and booked at the Southwest Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Wildomar Police Department and speak with Detective Cornett at 951-245-3300 or after hours and on weekends at 951-776-1099.
