Details:

On Thursday, 01/05/2012, about 7:09 p.m., deputies responded to the 31500 block of Canyon Estates Drive in the City of Lake Elsinore reference an unknown trouble. When deputies arrived they located a 23-year-old male yelling and screaming in front of a business and displaying objective signs of being under the influence of a narcotic. While attempting to detain the suspect, he became physical with officers and one officer was injured during the struggle. The suspect continued to resist officers and a K-9 was deployed. Shortly after deployment of the police dog, the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was later identified as John Mejia of Lake Elsinore. Mejia was later booked at the South West Justice Center for 11550 Under the Influence, 148 Resist, Delay, Obstruct and Battery on a Peace Officer.

Details:

On January 5, 2012, officers of the Lake Elsinore Police Department Special Enforcement Team conducted a probation sweep in the 200 block of North Riley Street, Lake Elsinore. The Lake Elsinore Police Department had received several citizen complaints about drug activity in the area.

During the sweep seven people were arrested for possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, violation of probation, violation of parole and under the influence of a controlled substance. Several of the arrested people are in the process of being evicted from the property. Officers from the Lake Elsinore Police Department Special Enforcement Team are working with the landlord to ensure the eviction process is completed.

The following suspects were arrested:

  • Amanda Andrade (19) of Lake Elsinore - Possession of Cocaine and Under the Influence
  • Jerry Hinton (40) of Lake Elsinore - Possession of Cocaine, Under the Influence & Violation of Probation
  • Catherine Javelosa (49) of Lake Elsinore – Under the Influence
  • Roni Skinner (42) of Lake Elsinore – Under the Influence & Violation of Probation
  • Keith Stewart (40) of Lake Elsinore – Possession of Cocaine & Violation of Probation
  • Robert Rice (24) of Wildomar – Violation of Parole
  • Male Juvenile (17) of Lake Elsinore – Possession of Cocaine & Violation of Probation

On Saturday December 31, 2011 a 19-year-old local man was struck from behind while skateboarding on the north edge of Lakeshore Drive in the city of Lake Elsinore. The driver did not stop, and fled the area at a high rate of speed. The skateboarder succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Evidence located at the scene identified the vehicle as a 1994-1996 Honda Accord, light in color. Witnesses further described the vehicle as lowered with loud exhaust. The vehicle is believed to have sustained significant damage to the right front quarter panel, the right side of the hood, front window and possibly the right side of the roof.

On Saturday January 7, 2012 officers from the Lake Elsinore Police Department conducted an investigatory checkpoint near the scene of the collision. Officers briefly contacted over 500 drivers providing each a flyer with the hit and run vehicle description and asked for the public's help in locating the missing car and driver. Investigators additionally would like to speak to anyone who believes a vehicle fitting the description has recently been missing from their neighborhood or place of business.
