Predawn Shootout Leaves One Dead

A suspect was killed by sheriff's deputies early Saturday morning.

Sheriff's deputies killed a suspect during a predawn shootout at a mobile home park in Perris, a deputy said.

Dispatchers received an anonymous call at 4:35 a.m. about multiple shots heard and sent deputies to the 2100 block of Oak Street near Aragon Drive, Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Josh Morales said. The unincorporated area is near Lake Mathews.

When the deputies rolled up they spotted a shotgun-carrying suspect inside the home and moments later aimed the weapon at the deputies. Gunfire was exchanged as the suspect emerged from the home and was shot and killed by the deputies, Morales said.
