Seriously Injured 4-Year-Old Boy Lifted Over International Border Fence

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday in the border town of Jacume, Mexico.

A 4-year-old boy, who was hit by a vehicle in Mexico on Memorial Day, was literally lifted over the international border fence to the United States so he could receive life-saving medical aid.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday in the border town of Jacume, Mexico. The boy, whose identity has not been released by authorities, is a U.S. citizen and was visiting family there.

The San Diego Sector Border Patrol’s International Liaison Unit received the distress call and requested assistance from agents assigned to the Boulevard Border Patrol Station. The teams responded to a remote area in Jacumba, Calif., which resides on the U.S. side of the international border.

Once they spotted the boy, the agents instructed his family to lift him over the fence. The boy’s cousin, an 18-year-old male United States citizen, was also lifted over the fence to assume responsibility for the child.

“Agents determined the child was in critical condition and a Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician performed life-saving techniques for 40 minutes until paramedics arrived,” according to a news release from the U.S. Border Patrol.

The child was airlifted to a local hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition, the news release stated.

“I am extremely appreciative and want the agents who helped my family to know that I am thankful for their efforts and for the Border Patrol as a whole,” the boy’s father stated in the news release.
