Woman Dies After Falling From 15 Freeway Overpass

A woman who suffered major injuries early Sunday after falling into a drainage ditch from a southbound 15 Freeway overpass in unincorporated area at Temescal Canyon Road has died, authorities have reported.

Maria Estrada, 48, died at Riverside Community Hospital, where she was airlifted following the fall.

Cal Fire received a report of the incident at 12:46 a.m. Sunday; the Riverside County Coroner's Office reported the woman's injuries occurred at 12:02 a.m.

A Henderson, Nevada, resident, Estrada died at 6:57 a.m. Sunday.

According to the coroner's office, Estrada's injuries occurred 30 feet south of Temescal Canyon Road at the southbound 15 Freeway.

There was no indication that the accident involved a vehicle.

Several first-responder crews were assigned to the rescue including personnel aboard a Mercy aircraft, three Cal Fire engines and one truck, according to the Cal Fire report.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Sigalert was issued and lanes on the southbound 15 Freeway were temporarily closed as crews worked the scene early Sunday. The freeway was reported open at 1:28 a.m.
