7,812 Private Properties In Lake Elsinore Likely To Receive Abatement Notices

If an owner fails to comply with an abatement order, the city would charge $306 plus $.02 per square foot to clean up the property.

Residents who want to weigh in on the issue of whether unkempt properties in Lake Elsinore should be declared “public nuisances” and the owners ordered to clean them up may want to attend the Jan. 28 city council meeting.
A public hearing on the matter is scheduled during the meeting and it's expected city council members will adopt an annual resolution declaring private properties that contain “weeds, rubbish and refuse” to be public nuisances. Currently, the city has approximately 7,812 properties on file that would receive abatement notices if the resolution passes, according to city documents.
Property owners would have until May 4, 2014 to abatement their parcels, the documents state. If an owner fails to comply with an abatement order, the city would charge $306 plus $.02 per square foot to clean up the property, the documents show.
Those who receive notices but want to object will be given the opportunity during an April 9 public hearing.
The Jan. 28 Lake Elsinore City Council meeting will be held at the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District boardroom located at 31315 Chaney Street. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Click here for the full meeting agenda.
