Lake Elsinore Continues Efforts To Shore Up Its Shoreline

Newly proposed boat dock, launch and pier standards come at a time when the city is actively trying to boost tourism on the lake.

During the May 1 Lake Elsinore Planning Commission meeting, commissioners will consider whether to recommend approval of new standards for boat docks, launches and piers at the lake’s edge.

Currently, there are no cohesive standards in place for shoreline property owners who want to build a dock, launch or pier onto Lake Elsinore. The proposed standards, which were a collaborative effort between city staff and local residents, are designed to ensure safety at the water’s edge and balance future needs of shoreline property owners, according to city documents.

The proposed standards come at a time when the city is trying to boost tourism on the lake. In early April the lake was ; this summer will see the and on April 24 city council members unanimously voted to rename the campground at the facility the La Laguna Resort & Boat Launch.

Boat dock standards in the cities of Canyon Lake and Big Bear were used as examples for the proposed standards, according to the city documents.

Under the proposed standards, any development that meets the new guidelines would be a permitted use, whereas anything outside the standards would require a conditional-use permit including, among others, heliports, campgrounds, and tennis courts.

If the proposed standards are approved by the planning commission, city council will have the final say on whether to adopt.
