PHOTO GALLERY: Assemblywoman Melendez Hosts Open House

An open house at Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez’s district office drew more than 100 residents and elected officials Thursday night.

“The residents of the 67th Assembly District need to know my door is always open to them and I am happy so many people took me up on the offer,” Melendez said.

Melendez represents the cities of Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Wildomar, and other local jurisdictions.

All five council members form the City of Canyon Lake attended as did representatives from the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, Senator Joel Anderson, Assemblywoman Marie Waldron and former State Senator Dennis Hollingsworth.

“The support I receive from the community and all of our elected officials makes my job that much easier,” Melendez said. “Some of the very best ideas for legislation come directly from those who live right here in the district.”

“I was so pleased to observe how Melissa bonds with the people. It is the kind of warmth Sacramento needs, not the stereotypical politician who serves through the window of statistics, reports and papers,” said Murrieta resident and open house guest Noni Carino. “Melissa's attitude to her constituents is exactly who I hope to find in the new generation of public servants... talking with constituents one-one-one. I was impressed. We were not disappointed. Melissa is leading by example, what an ideal elected public servant should do.”

During the event, Assemblywoman Melendez announced Carey Poindexter as a July ‘Power to the People” winner and presented him a certificate of achievement. Poindexter, a Murrieta 14-year-old, was recently named as a Ford Freedom Unsung honoree for his work with the American Lung Association for his role as Junior Ambassador for the American Lung Association. Assemblywoman Melendez announced the creation of the “Power to the People” program for the 67th Assembly District in April to recognize “remarkable citizens who aren’t seeking a spotlight for their achievements.”

Melendez’s office provided smoothies from “Juice It Up” and light snacks.  Look for information on the next open house in the Fall. --Contributed content.
