Private Investment Sought At La Laguna Resort

The city is seeking private investors to enhance area around the newly opened La Laguna boat launch.

La Laguna will become a destination resort in Lake Elsinore, officials are promising.

Tuesday, in a 4-0 vote with councilwoman Melissa Melendez absent, the Lake Elsinore City Council approved moving forward on a Request For Qualifications to secure private investment at La Laguna. The city’s intent is to expand recreational activities at the facility and increase annual revenues to Lake Elsinore. In return, a potential investor would receive long-term concession rights at La Laguna.

But Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce President Kim Cousins told city council Tuesday night that the area around the boat launch – particularly the RV/motor home park – needs improvement, and said the resort requires branding in order to make it a first-class boating and camping destination.

Among the enhancements the city would like to see at La Laguna include food and beverage services, watercraft rental, and campground improvements.

During Tuesday night’s discussion of the RFQ, it was agreed that Cousins will have input on proposals submitted to the city.
