Wildomar Parks Up For Discussion This Week: Express Your Views

A meeting is scheduled at Wildomar City Hall this week to discuss the future of the city’s parks, and the public is invited to weigh in.

On July 25 at 6:30 p.m., the Measure Z Oversight Advisory Committee will meet at Wildomar City Hall located at 23873 Clinton Keith Road. According to the published agenda (see attached), among the issues scheduled for discussion is the budget for Wildomar parks.

The Oversight Advisory Committee was formed to guide Wildomar City Council on how to spend money the city will receive as part of a special tax imposed on Wildomar property owners. The annual $28 special tax was approved by the city’s voters in November as part of the Measure Z ballot measure. All Wildomar property owners must pay the tax. The money is to be used for maintaining Wildomar’s three parks, two of which are closed to the public due to lack of current funding.

An effort is underway designed to help open all three facilities. Earlier this year, Wildomar City Council agreed to allow the United Methodist Church to fundraise and volunteer on behalf of Wildomar parks. In October, a "Great Day of Service" is scheduled at the parks that will see the church and volunteers working on landscaping and other tasks to ready the facilities for opening.

The Measure Z Oversight Advisory Committee cannot make decisions for the city, but rather has been formed to help guide council members on matters related to the parks. In addition to the five-member citizen-based committee, a parks subcommittee has been formed made up of Wildomar City Council members Bridgette Moore and Mayor Pro-Tem Marsha Swanson.

During the July 25 meeting, there is time allotted for public comments. If you have something you want to say about the parks, plan to attend the meeting, or email your comments to City Clerk Debbie Lee and ask that your comments be read into the record. Lee’s email address is dlee@cityofwildomar.org.

The Measure Z Oversight Advisory Committee meets on a quarterly basis. The last meeting was held in February.
