Wildomar Teen Was 'Motivated' To Join Marines

Marine Corps Rct. Kaitlin Shores, 18, graduated from Elsinore High School in 2013.

An 18-year-old Marine Corps recruit from Wildomar is hoping to make the cut this holiday season.

Kaitlin Shores, who graduated from Elsinore High School in 2013, is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine.

Shores is training with Platoon 4003, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Jan. 24, 2014.

"I wanted to become a Marine because my dad was a Marine,"Shores said. “I was pretty much raised on Camp Pendleton, and my dad was a senior drill instructor and a drillmaster, so it motivated me to join.”

Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for 13 weeks of rigorous Marine Corps training.

Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps.
