6 LEUSD Students Honored For Love Of Learning

The following is a news release from the Lake Elsinore Unified School District:

Six high school seniors from the Lake Elsinore Unified School District were recently honored by the Student of the Month program under the auspices of the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce and BMW Management, which owns and manages Sizzler restaurants. Students are individually nominated by teachers and selected for their character, love of learning, leadership, community service, and perseverance.

Elsinore High School

Nathan Turner—a valedictorian candidate, Nathan plans to attend BYU-Provo, majoring in Engineering. School activities include varsity wrestling (captain), NHS, Eagle Scout leadership, and volunteering in the community. Overcoming a severe wrestling injury has taught him perseverance—maintaining an amazing perfect attendance record despite this injury—proves his ability to keep on going!

Jessica Arizmendi De La Torre—ranked number one in her class, Jessica plans to attend UCSD as a premed student. She is focused on becoming a cardiologist. Her immigrant family is the motivation for living a dream that includes advanced coursework and a profession dedicated to healing hearts. Extracurricular activities include attending Rotary youth leadership camp (RYLA), and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

Lakeside High School

Kyle James—attending either UCLA or UCSB to pursue his interest in Political Science and History is this Lancer scholar’s college goal. School involvement includes NHS, PTSA, AVID, and varsity baseball. He credits time management skills and hard work as the key to success in high school and college.

Catherine Anguiano—attending college back east (NYU or Boston) is Catherine’s plan, to pursue studies in Anthropology and a career in forensics. Her academic interests include biology and psychology. She brings clarity to student social justice issues as part of her club involvement at LHS. Her ability to discern the relevancy of issues presented in lessons and class discussions makes her an exceptional student, teachers say.

Temescal Canyon High School

Luis Chavez—a future career in Criminology and attending either Fresno or Humboldt to make it happen are Luis’s personal goals. He participates in PTA, AVID, tutoring, and on weekends, volunteers for a pet rescue organization. Teachers praise his extraordinarily dedication and enthusiasm in getting involved; earning 600 hours of community service hours reflects this commitment.

Ada Vivian Anigbogu—becoming a pediatrician or a pharmacist parallels her goal of attending either Stanford or Berkeley. Ada plays three sports and is also involved in ASB, CSF and NHS, along with AVID peer tutoring. Her parents emigrated from Nigeria, which has taught Ada humility and gratitude for the tremendous opportunities afforded her while attending TCHS.
