Lake Elsinore Teachers Receive Education Grants

Two Lake Elsinore teachers have won grants to spend on a project to teach students about water.

John Madrid and Rick Wolter of Elsinore High School shared $9,500 with 16 other teachers as part of Western Municipal Water District’s 14th-annual Lois B. Krieger Water Project Grants for Education program.

Madrid’s project was called “No PB and Jam,” and Wolter’s project was called “Censtern for Water-Wise Garden.”

The teachers were chosen for their commitment to water education in the classroom, according to an announcement from the water district.

“We are again honored to support local teachers for their commitment to water education in the classroom,” stated Brenda Dennstedt, the president of the water district’s board, in the announcement. “It’s very important that we encourage our educators to demonstrate leadership by teaching our children about efficiency and preserving water resources. Today’s youth are the future leaders and decision-makers – as the future will be in their hands.”

The teachers presented their water project ideas during a meeting last week in Riverside.

Lois B. Krieger, after whom the awards are named, served as a representative for the water district from 1976 to 2001. She was chairperson of Metropolitan, as well as president of the Association of California Water Agencies. Krieger retired in 2001.
