LEUSD Students of the Month for March Honored

Seven seniors were chosen by teachers and staff for their accomplishments and character.

Seven high school seniors from the Lake Elsinore Unified School District were recently honored by the Student of the Month program under the auspices of the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce and BMW Management, which owns and manages Sizzler restaurants. Students are individually selected by teachers and school staff for their character, love of learning, leadership, community service, and their ability to persevere through life’s challenges.

Elsinore High School

Joseph Lovett stands tall as EHS’s drum major. He plans to attend BYU, studying Engineering. He is an Eagle Scout. The most valuable lesson he would impart to his peers is, “be happy in all you do.” Teachers describe his terrific mindset and skill in defining personal goals and reaching them.

Andrea Pohlman is a valedictorian and an All League student athlete in both varsity soccer and track. She has applied to Bridgewater College in Virginia to study sports medicine, with a goal of becoming an athletic trainer. She believes in the maxim, “doing your best means never stop trying.” Honors anatomy and physiology are her favorite studies.

Lakeside High School

Fredy Garcia has been accepted by UCSD. A valedictorian, campus activities include ASB, athletics, and an anti-bullying performance group that entertains school audiences with a positive message. Fredy’s philosophy of life is that simplicity through a life well lived—not material wealth—is what matters most.

Perla Gonzalez is a valedictorian who considers AVID her greatest influence. She plans on attending UCSD to major in International Studies, with a minor in French. The daughter of immigrants, she respects their sacrifices and motivation to support her path to college. She aspires to be the person to support students like herself, while helping to erase ignorance in all she does.

Temescal Canyon High School

Trevor Biddle is an aspiring college professor. He has applied to Stanford and also Berkeley, with plans on majoring in the Biological Sciences. Campus life includes cross country and track, with a love of learning and a passion for debate. Teachers respect the high standards he has set for himself and other students.

Griselda Gutierrez plans to become a pharmacist after college. She plans to attend either CSU Fullerton or Cal State LA. School life includes serving as an AVID middle school representative. Her greatest lesson learned is to “expect to do the best.” She continually seeks opportunities to help others, especially those students who are comparatively new to the English language and high school culture.

Southern California Online Academy

Judith Serrano is a focused on a law enforcement career in crime scene investigation. Her favorite lesson in life is to be independent and responsible. She is pursuing admission to a college in Ohio after graduation. Her teachers praise Judith as an exceptional online student, whose work ethic and class assignments really set the bar high for others.
