New LEUSD Superintendent Selected

The new superintendent's annual salary will be $205,000, plus benefits, according to a three-year employment contract to be considered at the June 14 LEUSD board meeting.

Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Douglas G. Kimberly will be taking over the top post at the Lake Elsinore Union School District.

The LEUSD made the announcement today.

“Hiring a new superintendent leads the governing board meeting agenda for Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 9:00 a.m., in the (LEUSD) Board Room,” today’s announcement stated.

“After a rigorous recruitment effort, we are pleased to bring Dr. Kimberly on board, furthering a tradition of excellent leadership in the Superintendent’s Office,” said LEUSD Governing Board President Susan E. Scott.

Dr. Kimberly’s start date will be July 1, 2012.

LEUSD’s governing board began the search for a new superintendent in February, a Dr. Passarella’s career spans more than 42 years in education, including serving as LEUSD Superintendent for the past six and a half years.

Dr. Kimberly received his Doctorate in Education Administration from USC in 2008, and is also a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in psychology; he received his Master’s degree in education administration from California State University, Fullerton.

The Kimberly family currently resides in Yorba Linda, California.

“The Board is confident that Dr. Kimberly will continue to move this district toward academic excellence,” Scott said.

Leadership Associates (Mission Viejo, CA), an executive recruitment firm specializing in education, facilitated the new superintendent search under a $24,500 contract with the district. According to Peggy Lynch, a partner in the firm, 18 applications were received, 14 of which were from seated superintendents or assistant/associate superintendents, according to today's announcement. Dr. Kimberly was selected by the governing board following interviews with the top five candidates in May.
