Storm Baseball Giving Away Free Tickets To Local Kids

The free tickets are part of the Storm's 12th annual Reading for Rewards program.

Free tickets are being handed out to local kids who show a propensity for reading.

The California League Champions Lake Elsinore Storm has kicked off its 12th annual Reading for Rewards program. Storm staff and team mascot Thunder are encouraging kids to read 10 books before March 30 in order to receive two free tickets to a Storm home game.

The 2012 reading program, presented by Wells Fargo, began Jan. 20 and runs through Mar. 2.  Over the course of the reading program, Thunder will visit 14 different cities and 58 local elementary schools, totaling over 100 live performances, according to a Storm news release.

All students attending a school performance will receive a “Be nice, Play nice, CHARACTER COUNTS!® you know” book, which was produced and written by members of the Storm front office; the book’s illustrations were drawn by area elementary students. The book contains Thunder’s efforts to show kids what it means to have good character, the news release stated.

Locally, 25 schools will also receive a Reading for Rewards bookmark that students and their parents fill out, return to teachers, and eventually redeem for two free Storm tickets in exchange for reading accomplishments.  In total, 65,000 bookmarks will be distributed to local students, according to the news release.

“We are very excited about the changes we have made to this year’s presentation,” said Storm Assistant General Manager Tracy Kessman. “CHARACTER COUNTS!® is a positive program the Josephson Institute has developed and we are thrilled to promote this message to local students.”
