Elsinore, Lakeside, Temescal Canyon Ready For CIF Soccer Playoffs

Lakeside boys, Temescal Canyon girls -- both Sunbelt League champions -- ready to challenge for CIF Division 5 titles.

Four local high school soccer teams, including a pair of league champions, will take part in the CIF playoffs it was announced Monday.

Lakeside High School’s boys soccer team captured the Sunbelt League title this season and will begin pursuit of the Division 5 championship in a first-round game Friday at 3 p.m. The Lancers will play host to the winner of Wednesday’s wild-card game between Granite Hills and Environmental Charter. The second round will be held Feb. 23.

Temescal Canyon, which took the girls’ Sunbelt League crown, begins the Division 5 playoffs on Thursday at home against the winner of Tuesday's wild-card La Quinta-vs.-San Bernardino match-up. A win will put Temescal into a second-round game on Feb. 22.

Lakeside and Elsinore also made the girls’ tournament field in Division 5. Lakeside, second in the Sunbelt, has a first-round game at San Andreas League champion San Bernardino Cajon on Thursday.

Elsinore, an at-large entry from the Sunbelt, will have to win a wild-card game Tuesday at Rialto to advance to the first round.

An Elsinore win will set up a Thursday meeting at Downey, champions of the San Gabriel Valley League.

CIF championship games for boys and girls in Division 5 will be held either March 4 or 5.
