Major League Baseball Coming To The Diamond

In a first for Lake Elsinore, two Major League Baseball teams will play in an exhibition game at The Diamond on April 4.

The city of Lake Elsinore just got its call up to the big leagues.

For a day, anyway, as the San Diego Padres host the Kansas City Royals in a Major League Baseball Exhibition game at April 4.

The Padres, which have been the parent club of the Class A Storm since 2001, will tune up for the 2012 season in the afternoon exhibition matchup scheduled for 2 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity for baseball fans to catch spring training here in Southern California,” Storm Baseball Vice President and General Manager Chris Jones said. “We’re happy to be able to bring two Major League teams to this city and create what is sure to be a memorable event for our local fans.”

The Storm has hosted the Padres four times in exhibition play, most recently in 2010. The upcoming game between two MLB teams, however, is a first in Lake Elsinore. It will be a more intimate setting than a regular-season game, as The Diamond features about 8,000 seats.

“We’re thrilled to bring this opportunity to Lake Elsinore,” Padres Vice President/Assistant General Manager Jason McLeod said. “The Lake Elsinore community has been very supportive of the Padres and professional baseball. We look forward to these games and the fans seeing former Storm players back at The Diamond.”

Storm 2012 season ticket holders, effective immediately, will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets. Storm mini-plans, which offer fans seven Storm regular season home games and the Major League exhibition game, will be available for purchase during the offseason.
